Granny's Fish Pie

Serving

Makes enough for 4 good portions

Ingredients

  • mix of 3-4 boneless skinless fish fillets - preference for firm white fish (Cod, Haddock etc) at least one of which should be smoked
  • 100g shelled raw prawns
  • 1L milk
  • potatoes for mash
  • 200g peas
  • 200g cheddar cheese
  • 1tsp nutmeg
  • 1tsp sage
  • 1tsp thyme

Method

  1. Oven at 180c Fan
  2. Place the fish in an oven proof dish with the milk. The milk should reach half way up the fillets, don't add all of it if not required.
  3. Put in the oven for 20 minutes
  4. Warm peas (esp if frozen!) in hot water, do not boil
  5. Boil and mash potatoes while fish is in the oven
  6. Remove fish from oven after their time, increase oven to 220c
  7. Add butter and some milk from the fish pan to the mash to make it smooth and creamy, then gently mix in the peas
  8. Drain the fish
  9. Place fish in the final pie dish
  10. Add the prawns
  11. Sprinkle with the herbs
  12. Add mash to the top of the dish
  13. Cover with the cheese
  14. Put in the oven for 20 minutes
  15. Serve!
